On the afternoon of September 27, 2022, the Security Dept of Peking University, the School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) and Beijing Boyaxuan Property Management Co., Ltd. jointly held a “Real Life” Fire Drill in the north square of the Integrated Science Research Center. The goals of the drill were to further improve the fire safety awareness and self-rescue skills of the teachers and students of SMSE, improve their ability to respond to emergencies, and ensure the fire safety of the campus and laboratories. This drill is also a part of the compulsory course of laboratory safety offered by SMSE. Nearly 200 people including Ma Ruijie, the deputy fire safety director of the security department, staff of the “mini fire station”, part of teachers and students of SMSE and some of the property managers participated in the drill.
Before the practical exercise, Pi Weitao, the security director of Beijing Boyaxuan Property Management Co., Ltd., explained to the teachers and students all kinds of equipment, including gas masks, flashlights, first-aid drugs, chemical protective clothing, chemical protective gloves, chemical protective aprons, fire suits, fire helmets, fire blankets, fire axes, etc., placed in the “laboratory emergency equipment cabinet” of the Integrated Science Research Center. Moreover, he demonstrated how to use the equipment to rescue ourselves and escape from a fire.

After the introduction, under the leadership of Zhang Jing and Guo Shaojun, the Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee of SMSE, the laboratory safety course teacher Zhang Yangfei and Gao Song, the manager of SMSE’s laboratory safety Luo Jing, and the manager of Beijing Boyaxuan Property Management Co., Ltd. Gao Mingguo, jointly organized teachers, students and property managers to participate in practical exercises in an orderly manner. The participants used the fire extinguishers, simulated smoke escape and did other exercises in groups. This drill further improves teachers’ and students’ awareness of fire safety and their ability to self-help, evacuation and firefighting. Furthermore, it builds a solid foundation for campus safety.
